Thursday tab: Secret Oath leads 8 graded

Jul 11, 2023

Secret Oath, looking to return to the win column in the Grade 1 Personal Ensign on Aug. 25, worked on Saratoga's Oklahoma track Thursday morning.

The 4-year-old filly went five furlongs in 1:00.4 for trainer D. Wayne Lukas.

“That’s one that really thrives up here. I’m so looking forward to the Personal Ensign. I don’t think she’s ever been this good, frankly,” Lukas told the New York Racing Association media team. “She has an affinity for the Oklahoma track. She worked this morning in a minute flat, and she did it without taking a breath. I’m really looking forward to running her.”

Secret Oath, winner of last year's Kentucky Oaks (G1), was 0-for-5 after that but started the year with a win over Clairiere in the Azeri (G2). Clairiere went on to beat Secret Oath in the Apple Blossom (G1) and Ogden Phipps (G1), and they are expected to meet again in the Personal Ensign, along with Shuvee (G2) winner Nest and La Troienne (G1) winner Played Hard.
